Work vs Work

This way or this way?

This way or this way?

Working from home. Hmmm,  it has its good points and it has its bad points. I had the opportunity to locum for a colleague who needed to go home urgently.  We packed our bags and made it to the nation’s capital, Canberra (Can-bra for the non natives which means meeting place or hollow between a woman’s breasts, depending on which indigenous person you talk to. I knew which you prefer :)  .)  Actually getting here was a step.  (I’m a hermit after all,) and I’m pleased I managed it. It’s a very nice place, very clean, and so much less traffic than Sydney; wow is there less traffic. Her home is sweet ( who doesn’t love a cottage,) and despite not liking Mondays, I love to work.  Here is the thing. Her practice is at the front of her house.

Does the gown make my... Never mind!

Does the gown make my… Never mind

The good:

  • I walk from the kitchen to work in just a few paces.
  • I feel very comfortable and the hermit in me loves it.
  • I can do the paperwork any time I like and coffee is always on tap.
  • The wee beastie has me around when ever he likes ( baring barging in on a patient,)
  • and a nap during my lunch break is a real possibility :)

The bad:

  • Patients come here, where I am living.
  • The door bell rings constantly(don’t they read the enter sign?)
  • I have a very old cranky receptionist  from 8 – 4.   She was probably a latin teacher in her other life.
  •  I tend to keep working after the closed sign has turned over.

This means writing has taken a back seat. I still have no new project and I feel bereft without a solid book to plough away at.  I am moving from this project to that with out direction. Writing is  such a comfort don’t you think? I’m tinkering but mostly I’m working because I’m at work all the time. It’s easy to go to the front of the house and get into the work mode rather than think about what I might like to write next.

Do you work from home? Have you ever worked from home? How do you separate your working from your other life?
